Climate, Environment, and Conservation: U.S. Special Envoy for Climate Change Todd Stern Travel to Brazil and Cuba

In the continued U.S. effort to secure a strong climate agreement at the Paris climate talks, U.S. Special Envoy for Climate Change Todd Stern is traveling October 25 – 29 to Brazil and Cuba. Latin America plays a critical role in addressing the global threat of climate change and Special Envoy Stern’s visit will reinforce the U.S. commitment to engaging on climate matters with Brazil, Cuba, and others in the region.

The United States and Brazil have a long history of bilateral engagement in addressing critical issues during the climate negotiations. During his visit, Special Envoy Stern conducted in-depth discussions with his counterparts and held the first meeting of the Climate Change Working Group – an effort led by the Department of State, and launched in June by President Obama and Brazilian President Rousseff.

Special Envoy Stern’s Havana visit will provide a notable opportunity to promote mutual understanding with Cuban officials on climate change leading up to the December UN Framework Convention on Climate Change Conference of Parties (COP21) in Paris.
